Ada Sofia Esteves
Ms. Esteves joined the firm in October, 2003, after completing a two year federal clerkship with the Honorable Jaime Pieras Jr., Senior District Judge in the United States District Court for the District of Puerto Rico.
Ms. Esteves attended Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, and graduated in 1992 with a B.A. in History and a minor in Government. During her last year at Clark, Ms. Esteves spent the fall semester in an internship in Washington, D.C., where she lobbied Congress for nuclear weapons and defense expenditure reductions, and the spring semester at the Sorbonne in Paris, France. She also holds a Master's degree in International Affairs from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. with a concentration in Middle Eastern studies.
Ms. Esteves attended Tulane Law School in the fall of 1996 and as her first summer clerkship worked for Judge Jaime Pieras, Jr. During that time she became interested in litigation, and during her second year represented Tulane Law School for the first time ever in the Hispanic National Bar Association's Moot Court Competition, where the Tulane team placed 11th out of 32 teams. During her second summer as a law student, Ms. Esteves clerked at 2 different law firms, O'Neill and Borges in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Deutsch, Kerrigan and Stiles, one of the biggest and oldest firms in New Orleans, Louisiana. During her third year, she participated in the Tulane Law School Jones Walker Senior Appellate Competition, where, after having argued the final round before the Supreme Court of Louisiana, she placed 1st. This assured her nomination and subsequent election to the Order of the Barristers, a national honor society for excellence in legal advocacy.
Ms. Esteves returned to Puerto Rico in 1999 and worked as an Associate at Bufete Bennazar for 1 1/2 years. In May, 2001, she was offered a full-time clerkship with Judge Pieras where she remained until the summer of 2003.
In her spare time, Ms. Esteves is a member of the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions Committee for the district of Puerto Rico, which seeks to identify new talent for the Metropolitan Opera and to assist young singers with great potential in their career development. In that capacity, she is also the annual donor of the Alberto R. Esteves Memorial Scholarship for advanced singing studies in the United States, in memory of her father, a long time Director of this program. She is also a member of the Board of the Centro Educativo para Ciegos e Impedidos de Puerto Rico, a local printer of braille and large-print books and materials.
Ms. Esteves is admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the District of Puerto Rico, all three United States District Courts for Louisiana, the United States Court of Appeals for the First and Fifth Circuits, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and Louisiana state courts and the Supreme Court of the United States. She is a member of the Federal and American Bar Associations, the Bar Association for the Fifth Federal Circuit, the Louisiana State Bar Association and the Colegio de Abogados de Puerto Rico.
